, no offense to the posters here. But LOCAL and TEAM chat channels are always useful to the players who are using them. These players just aren't GǪ "you".
When I got on the game two years ago (jeez, that long already?) many of us debated if MIC should be 'key-on' or 'always-on' because we intuitively realized MIC is the efficient means of using the Local (default) Chat Channel between matches---not "typing' your conversation. And since we were Newberrys, we hadn't gotten far into creating/joining new channels yet. Talking like human beings in Local was the social part of EVE/Dust.
Your MIC auto-switches to "TEAM" channel the moment you start a match, because two years ago we always had a (2 minute?) warbarge wait before the match. MIC-ing was how you got everyone's attention, and tried to squad-up and suggest an Alpha-tactic before actually beginning the fight. From a certain point of view "MIC" was the core reason for having Local and Team Channels--so all us ducks can TRY to get into some rows and not just "flop" all over the map like braless boobs.
The fact that there's "no need for it" "Never used it", "I don't know what it's meant for, so cut it down and toss it" reactions to certain gadgets in a "different" game like this, really just translates to "GǪwe never asked what it is used for, and never tried it out that wayGǪ"
It's okay. MIC was perceived as such a useful device in this game (for obvious reasons----you should hear the way players in the parent EVE-Online game use their MIC; they are ASTOUNDING, and make most of the LOCAL/TEAM "comms" attempts in Dust matches look like a circus of mutts.
GǪBut in Dust, trying to use MIC well, just faded further and further away with each new wave of new players.
There are still some old youtube recordings of skilled Dust players using MIC in Team-Channel the way it was supposed to be usedGǪ. listening to them just ROCKS your perception of anything you are likely doing in YOUR current matches. Those players may still be there doing it, but you don't hear itGǪ Why should those skilled players switch their squad-MIC back to Team-MIC? JUst for US to hear them? Our MIC skills aren't good enough to help them,GǪ we don't practice it much. (OR, "No need for it, never use it, just get rid of it"GǪ.)
But, like I said, it's all okay. It takes a LOT of practice, patience, and know-how to get good with MIC, get passed those players who clog the AUDIO with hillbilly-noises and vile crap words, and take your Dust fight to a better EVE-style level of combat teamwork. Half of us don't seem capable of even trying to.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
